Rockingham - Final round

Submitted by admin on Fri, 11/20/2009 - 10:33.

This was the first bike meeting there in 6 years and i was trying to finish the season off with a win and finishing 6th in the championship and that was all i could manage because of the DNF's i'd had earlier in the year. I'd had 2 track days heer leading into Rockingham so i had no excuses not to perform.

Friday was promising and i was going out on my own every session and going quickest or being able to beat my previous sessions times. I felt more confiedent than ever going into my last ever qualifying in superteens.

On Saturday it was a hard qualifying. I was first onto the track was going P1 nearly every lap and my bike wasn't even going right but then the session was red flagged and i was P2 so i wanted to come back in and try and get Pole position before the end of the session. In pit lane we all waited for at least 5 minutes then went back out again. The track has a section of right handers then a tight left so with me going out with the tyres not being that warm as soon as i tipped into the left hander i lost the front and was fuming as i went tumbling into the gravel. All i could do was watch and hope no-one went quicker. I finished 2nd and knew i had to race hard if i wanted the win. Race 1 was a lonely one as Lee cleared off from the start and every lap when i pulled him i made a mistake so i was never making any ground on him so i finished another 2nd. Race 2 was a battle with Andy and Matt for 2nd place as once again Lee had got away but i was putting in some hard moves and it resulted in me finishing 2nd place which was well deserved.

On sunday i had to make a good start if iwere too even keep up with Lee's early pace. I hole shotted and led the race for 5 laps until Andy Reid came through which made the battle start and every lap it was a toss between me and Andy who was going to win and on the last lap i passed him but then he skittled his way through under me and finished 1st with me right behind in 2nd. I was more determined than ever for the last race i couldn't have planned what happened. If Lee Jackson finished 4 points higher than Wayne who was not having his usual weekend Lee won the championship. I wasn't invloved with this and all i wanted was my first win so in the last race i put lee under pressure in places and passed him twice when on the 5th lap Lee lost the front in the biggest braking area on the circuit, so whilst his championship hopes crashed to the ground i was setting quick pace at the front and won the race by 4 seconds. This was the biggest race winning margine of the weekend from superteens as well as the overall quickest race winning time. I was more than happy!!

Over the last 2 years i've worked really hard for the rewards in racing and after winning the final race of the year in the most challenging series in the world for youngsters and none of it would be possible without sponsors and my family.

I'd like to thank you all for supporting me and hopefully i can carry on this form next year and the future.

Cheers Everone
